Free Twitch alerts for OBS

To add Twitch alerts to OBS, make an alert box in Layrs and paste its link into OBS as a Browser source. Follows, subs, gift subs, bits, raids and tips then play with a sound, in one box. It’s free, and Kick alerts can play in the same box.

Add Twitch alerts to OBS

  1. Make an alert box

Sign in to Layrs with Twitch, click New source (on a new account: Browse all sources on Home) and pick Alerts.

  2. Copy the link

In the strip under the preview, click Copy URL.

  3. Add it to OBS

In OBS, click + under Sources, pick Browser, paste the link into URL and set Width and Height to 800 and 450, then OK.

  4. Test it

Click Test above the preview and pick Sub. It plays in the preview and in OBS, and never counts toward anything.

Follows and channel points need the streamer’s own Twitch login: on your Layrs home, Twitch events should say On or Ready. Subs, bits and raids also come in through chat. Someone on your team with the Editor role can make the alert box too.

Which alerts it plays

The alert box has a section for each: Follow, Sub, Resub, Gift sub, Bits & KICKs, Tip, Raid and Channel points. Each one is on, except channel points: open Channel points and switch on Enabled. Tips come from your Layrs tip page: set up donations on Twitch.

Signed in with Kick too? Kick follows, subs, gifted subs and KICKs play in the same box. Kick alerts in OBS.

Sounds, GIFs and bigger alerts

  • Words, image and sound: in each section, change the Message, pick an Image (an image, GIF or video, or leave it empty for an animated badge) and a Sound: a built-in one, or upload your own. Set its Volume and how long it stays (Duration, 2 to 20 seconds).
  • Bigger alerts for big moments: under Bigger alerts, give an amount its own message, sound and image, like a gift of 10 subs or a 1,000 bit cheer. Celebration makes it Big or Epic.
  • Variations: add a few images, sounds or messages under Variations, and each alert plays one of them at random.
  • Text to speech: under Text to speech, switch on Read messages aloud and bits, sub and tip messages are read in a free Layrs voice. Set a minimum, skip links and block words.

Skip, pause and replay on stream

Under Live controls on the alert box’s page (Live on a phone), Skip alert ends the one playing and Pause alerts holds new ones in line until you press Resume alerts.

Missed one? Add the Layrs dock to OBS (copy its link from OBS docks on your Layrs home, then Docks → Custom Browser Docks in OBS). Its Activity lists recent follows, subs and bits, each with a replay button that plays it again on your alert box. Your Layrs mods can do all of this from their own browser.

Fixes for the common problems

  • Alerts don’t show: check it’s a Browser source with the whole link, and that Twitch events is on. Tests play without Twitch events, so test first. More: OBS browser source not showing.
  • Alerts play twice: OBS has two alert boxes, often one on its own and a copy in a scene. Keep one.
  • Too loud or too quiet: set each alert’s Volume in Layrs. For a slider in OBS’s mixer, tick Control audio via OBS on the Browser source. Sound from a Browser source.
  • Cut off: set the Browser source’s Width and Height to what Layrs shows.
