A Vision alternative with free roles for your mods
Layrs is a free overlay editor for Twitch and Kick that you build live with your mods, with every role and the history at no cost. Vision by 1up.vision is built on the same idea, for Twitch and YouTube, with a free plan, paid plans from €10 a month and strong tools for shows and sponsors. Here’s where each one is better.

Where Vision is better
Vision does several things Layrs doesn’t do at all. If your stream runs on these, Vision is the better pick:
- Shows. Jeopardy-style quizshows with buzzers (Pro), tournaments with groups, K.O. rounds, live brackets and viewer pages (on request), and lobbies where you invite other streamers and manage RSVPs and calendars (Basic). Layrs has polls, giveaways and games in chat, but no quiz, bracket or lobby (home page).
- Guests. Calls bring guests into your stream, with audio mixing, N-1 routing and talkback built in. Layrs has no calls.
- Sponsors. Logo rotations swap by game, title or campaign period, and Pro shows impressions per logo, exported as CSV for your partners. The home page lists brand campaigns for Renault, Netflix and Allianz, among others. Layrs has no sponsor tools (pricing).
- YouTube. Vision is built for Twitch and YouTube, and its chat designer combines Twitch, YouTube and Kick chat in one feed, on the free plan. Layrs is Twitch and Kick only.
- Alerts from more places. A keyframe timeline for every layer, and events from Ko-fi, Shopify, betterplace.org and other tip services. Text to speech has around 50 voices in 14 languages, and AI voices on Pro can be cloned from a clip (alerts).
- More around the overlay. Automations as visual workflows (beta), an iPhone app, and a free chat overlay that also takes Kick chat. Layrs’ free chat tool is Twitch only.
- Big channels. The home page names Papaplatte, Gronkh, BastiGHG, Zarbex and DoktorFroid among the streamers who use it.
Who should pick which
Pick Vision when your stream is built around shows, tournaments, guests or sponsors, or when you stream on YouTube. Roles start on Basic, and audit logs, quizshows and sponsor statistics are on Pro.
Pick Layrs when the overlay is a team job and you don’t want to pay for the team. Every role (Moderator, Editor, Manager and Owner), the history and the saved versions are free, and so is the chat bot. Kick follows, subs, gifted subs and KICKs play your alerts and fill your goals, and tips go into your own Stripe or PayPal.
Both are one link in OBS, so they can share a scene. Layrs and StreamElements. Layrs and Streamlabs. Layrs and Meld Studio.
Use Layrs and Vision together
Copy the Layrs link
In Layrs, build the overlay, click Add to OBS and copy the link.
Paste it as a Browser source
In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the link. Vision’s chat guide adds a Vision overlay the same way, so both can sit in one scene.
Give each one its job
For example, keep a quizshow or a sponsor rotation in Vision, and let your mods run chat, alerts and the subathon timer in Layrs. Turn each alert on in one tool only, so it doesn’t play twice.
If you move the overlay to Layrs
There is no importer from Vision. Add Layrs’ chat, alerts, goals and subathon timer: they look finished when you add them. Layrs does import StreamElements overlays and custom widgets, and Pogly widgets.
Invite your mods by their Twitch or Kick name, or with a link, and pick a role for each. A Moderator runs things live (counters, timers, test alerts, the panic button), an Editor designs the overlay, and a Manager handles the team, locks and versions.
FAQ
Is Vision free?
There is a free plan, free forever: one overlay with up to 10 layers, one OBS connection, 1 GB storage, 20 gallery widgets and 10 sounds. Basic is €10 a month with a 14-day trial and gives five overlays, roles and lobbies. Pro is €50 a month with a 5-day trial and adds audit logs, quizshows and rotation statistics. Paying yearly gives two months free, and prices include VAT.
Is Layrs free?
Yes. There is no Pro tier, and roles, history and versions are free. The one fee is 3% on tips paid through Stripe. PayPal tips have no Layrs fee.
Can my mods edit my overlay?
In Layrs, yes, for free. They sign in with their own Twitch or Kick account, and you pick a role for each. The history shows who changed what for 30 days, and you can undo everything one person did. In Vision, several editors work on one overlay at once, with live cursors and an editor chat, and roles start on Basic.
Does Layrs have text to speech?
Yes. An alert box can read viewers’ messages aloud on tips, bits and KICKs, sub messages and channel point rewards, with a free Layrs voice or your own TTS.Monster key.
Does Layrs work on Kick?
Yes. Kick follows, subs, gifted subs and KICKs drive alerts, goals and the subathon timer, Kick chat shows in the overlay with 7TV emotes, and the chat bot works there too. 7TV name paints and hype trains are Twitch only. Vision’s Kick page says every layer works on Kick and Kick chat shows with badges, and that in beta, Kick subs, gift subs and Kicks can add time to a subathon timer and automations can react when the stream starts or ends. Vision’s chatbot runs on Kick too (beta, Basic and up).
Does Layrs work with YouTube?
No. Layrs is for Twitch and Kick. If you stream on YouTube, Vision covers it.
Does Layrs stream or record?
No. It makes the overlay. OBS sends the stream and records it, the same as with Vision.
