Type your channel to get your link. Free, no account, no watermark.

Want alerts, goals, a subathon timer, or your mods editing it live? Sign in with Twitch and this chat comes with you.

Preview at 450 × 700, over a game. In OBS only the messages show.

Add it to OBS

  1. Click + under Sources

In OBS, pick the scene you stream from and click + at the bottom of the Sources list.

  2. Pick Browser

Chat needs a Browser source, not Window Capture. Name it Chat and click OK.

  3. Paste the link and set the size

Paste your link into URL. Set Width to 450 and Height to 700, then OK.

  4. Place it and lock it

Drag it where you want it, then click the padlock so it stays put.

Want it bigger or smaller? Change the Width: the chat scales with it. The background is transparent, so your game shows through.

What it shows

  • Emotes: Twitch emotes plus your channel’s 7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes, the global ones, and 7TV zero-width emotes stacked on top.
  • Names and badges: viewers’ own name colors and 7TV name paints, with Twitch, 7TV, BTTV, FFZ and Chatterino badges.
  • Moderation: messages your mods delete, and everything from someone who gets timed out or banned, disappear from the overlay too.
  • Less clutter: Nightbot, StreamElements, Streamlabs, Moobot and Fossabot, and !commands, are hidden unless you switch that off.

Why chat is empty at first

The overlay shows chat as it’s sent. It doesn’t load older messages, so in OBS it stays empty, and see-through, until someone types. That’s also why the preview above shows sample messages, marked Sample, until your chat says something.

Keep it, change it later

Your link is free, and the style you picked is part of it. To change the style, make a new link here and paste it over the old one in OBS.

Want more than chat? Sign in with the button under your link and this chat comes with you as a source in your account. Pick any font, color or size, add alerts, goals or a subathon timer, and let your mods edit it live. Paste its link into OBS once, and every change after that shows up by itself.

How it compares

Each column comes from the tool’s own page, checked on 2 November 2026: obs-versions.com’s chat overlay, KapChat and Twitch’s pop-out chat (Popout in any channel’s chat). Something out of date? Email support@layrs.tv.

FAQ

Do I need an account?

No. Type your channel, copy the link and paste it into OBS.

Does it read my Twitch account?

No. It reads your channel’s public chat without anyone’s login, like Twitch’s own pop-out chat.

Does it show 7TV emotes and paints?

Yes: 7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes, 7TV name paints and 7TV badges. Paints can be switched off.

Is the background transparent?

Yes. Only the messages show; the rest of the Browser source is see-through.

Does it work with Kick?

Not without an account: Layrs shows Kick chat for streamers who sign in with Kick. Sign in with Kick and your chat source shows your Kick chat; connect Twitch too and it shows both in one chat.

What about YouTube or TikTok?

No. Layrs works with Twitch, and with Kick when you sign in.

Can I see chat while I play?

This link puts chat on your stream for viewers. To read chat yourself without showing it, add Twitch’s pop-out chat as an OBS dock: here’s how.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no watermark and no ads on your stream.

Want alerts and goals too?

Sign in with Twitch to add alerts, goals and a subathon timer, and let your mods help live.
